HISTORY OF THE DEPARTMENT:

  1. Department of Zoology was established in the year 1973 and is affiliated to Osmania University, the department has 15 undergraduate programs.
  2. The courses offered in the department are BZC till the year 2015. The restructured course in Biotechnology is introduced to the parent Department Zoology during the year 2018. This is in combination with Zoology and Chemistry as Bt.Z.C in English medium. In 2019 new combinations have been introduced with zoology as one of subject they are ANZC, MBZ, BTBZ, ANBZ. In 2020 Computer science is added to the department and in 2021 Psychology course is also added.
  3. Department of Zoology organizes co-curricular activities every academic year to make learning beyond the classroom and fun oriented activities include seminars, workshops & guest lectures.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES:

Nature is ever inviting investigation; her forces are in constant operation about us, but she hides the truth. We would like the students be as seekers after truth, as ones striving to get a glimpse into the mysteries of life.

  1. To encourage scientific thinking among students because Science, with its numerous applications, plays a role in nearly every phase of our life.
  2. To make student learn (the science) about animals by observation and reasoning through classroom teaching, laboratory practical, field trips and any other ways.
  3. To make students aware of their responsibilities towards Society and Nature.
  4. To provide a strong foundation for a better understanding of current advances in Zoology and its practical significance.
  5. To inculcate critical thinking and analytical skills to enable students to pursue higher studies and research in Life Sciences or related fields of Zoology.

PROGRAM SPECIFIC OUTCOMES: PSO OF B. SC., ZOOLOGY

  1. PSO1 Demonstrated a broad understood of animal diversity, including knowledge of the scientific classification and evolutionary relationships of major groups of animals.
  2. PSO2 Recognized the relationships between structure and functions at different levels of biological organization (e.g., molecules, cells, organs, organisms, populations, and species) for the major groups of animals.
  3. PSO3 Characterized the biological, chemical, and physical features of environments (e.g.,terrestrial, freshwater, marine, host) that animals inhabit. Explained how animals function and interact with respect to biological, chemical and physical processes in natural and impacted environments.
  4. PSO4 Explained how organisms function at the level of the gene, genome, cell, tissue, organ and organ-system. Drawing upon this knowledge, they are able to give specificexamples of the physiological adaptations, development, reproduction and behavior ofdifferent forms of life.
  5. PSO5 Understood the applied biological sciences or economic Zoology such as sericulture,Apiculture, aquaculture, Industrial microbiology, rDNA technology and medicine for their career opportunities.
